Our Story

This is the story behind the establishment of The Children of the Future Foundation as narrated by the founder, Mercy Adjei-Poku:

On a trip to Ghana in January 2010, my heart was troubled by a particular story of a 14-year-old boy who was sleeping and working in the Dome market in Accra in an effort to raise money to care for himself. After conversing with him, I learned that his mother had died, and his father had completely neglected him by moving to Accra leaving the young boy with his grandmother in their village. The father had no interest in being involved in the life of his son. How heartbreaking! Due to this, the boy started helping people in the market in his village and dropped out of school. Somehow, he had made it to Accra on his own struggling to make ends meet. To no surprise, he appeared to be in poor health and was malnourished. Unfortunately, this story is far too common in Ghana. This was when I realized that something had to be done to positively affect and impact young children in Ghana to give them an opportunity to reach their potentials.
